Wise Business account review: a Swiss GmbH account without monthly fees
I run my Swiss GmbH day to day on the Wise Business account. Here is my experience, the real fees and why I left Revolut Business.
A Wise Business account is a cheap alternative to a classic business account for many self-employed people and small companies in Switzerland. I use Wise for my GmbH and pay all day-to-day business expenses with it. I paid CHF 55 once to open it, and there have been no recurring costs since. In this article you will learn what the account can do, what it costs, where its limits are and how it works with accounting tools such as bexio and AbaNinja.
As of October 2026, based on the Wise Business Switzerland pricing page on wise.com. Fees may change; check current terms before opening.
What is the Wise Business account?
Wise first became known as a cheap service for international transfers. With the Business account, your company gets a multi-currency account where you can hold balances in many currencies, convert money at the mid-market rate and pay with a company card. You also get local account details in several currencies, so clients abroad can pay you as if you had an account in their country.
For a Swiss GmbH or sole proprietorship, this is especially interesting if you work with clients or suppliers abroad, pay software subscriptions in dollars or euros, or simply want a cheap, digital second account for running costs.
Wise Business account fees in Switzerland
Registration is free. To use all business features, you pay a one-time setup fee. The main fees at a glance:
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Registration | free |
| Setup of all business features | CHF 55 one-time |
| Monthly account fee | none |
| Holding CHF and foreign currencies | free |
| Currency conversion | from 0.19%, depending on currency |
| International transfers | from 0.19%, depending on currency |
| Card payment in a currency you hold | free |
| Cash withdrawal | free up to CHF 230 a month, then 2.69% |
| Receiving local payments in EUR, USD, GBP and more | free |
| Receiving a SWIFT payment in USD | USD 6.11 per payment |
| Receiving a SWIFT payment in EUR | EUR 2.39 per payment |
For companies with higher card spending, there is also a volume discount from CHF 20,000. How large it is is not stated on the pricing page.
What does the Wise Business account cost per year?
This is the biggest difference from many banks and from Revolut Business. Wise has no monthly subscription. Let’s run through a typical year for my GmbH:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Account fee | CHF 0 |
| Card payments in CHF for software, supplies and travel | CHF 0 |
| A few conversions from CHF to EUR and USD for subscriptions | a few francs, from 0.19% per conversion |
| One-time opening in the first year | CHF 55 |
After the first year, I practically only pay conversion fees. With a bank package or a business subscription, a few hundred francs a year add up quickly before you have made a single payment.
Wise Business CAMT export: importing into bexio and AbaNinja
The feature that tipped the balance for me: Wise offers a CAMT export. CAMT is the standard format for bank statements that Swiss accounting software can read.
Here is how I do it: at the end of every quarter I export the CAMT file from Wise and import it directly into my accounting in AbaNinja. It works with bexio too. The entries come in cleanly, I assign them to accounts, done. This has been available since around April 2026; before that I reconciled receipts by hand. Since then, quarterly closing has been painless.
- Open the business account in Wise and choose the period you need.
- Download the statement in CAMT format.
- Open the bank import in AbaNinja or bexio and upload the file.
- Check the entries, match receipts and close.
Wise Business vs Revolut Business: why I switched
Before Wise, I had opened a business account with Revolut. Two things bothered me: I could not create a Swiss QR invoice, and Revolut Business charges a monthly fee. For my small GmbH, that was simply too expensive for what I got.
| Wise Business | Revolut Business | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | CHF 55 once, no subscription | monthly fee depending on plan |
| Create Swiss QR invoice | no | I could not |
| CAMT export for bexio and AbaNinja | yes | not tested |
| My verdict | my favourite for the company | great privately and for travel |
Privately I still love Revolut, especially when travelling. For the company, though, Wise wins for me. How I combine Revolut and the Swisscard Cashback Cards privately is described in that review.
Wise Business account review: what I like
- One-time setup fee, then no recurring costs
- A digital company card that is ready to use instantly and that I pay all business expenses with
- CAMT export that imports cleanly into bexio and AbaNinja
- The real mid-market exchange rate, with fees shown before every transaction
- Local account details in several currencies for payments from abroad
Wise Business downsides: what bothers me
Wise is not without catches either. Two things you should know:
- Currency conversion fees: from 0.19% per conversion is cheap, but not free. Coming from Revolut privately, where the free plan has a fee-free allowance, I was not used to that.
- No Swiss QR invoice: you still create invoices for Swiss clients from your accounting tool. Wise does not replace accounting software.
- SWIFT receipts cost money: if someone pays you via SWIFT instead of the local account details, fixed fees apply. So always give your clients the local account details.
Wise Business in everyday use: my tips for Swiss GmbHs
After a few years with the account, some habits have proven themselves and save time and fees:
- Keep company and private money strictly separate: everything to do with the GmbH runs through Wise, everything private through my private accounts. That makes bookkeeping easier and keeps you relaxed during an audit.
- Put subscriptions on the Wise card: I pay for software, hosting and tools with the digital company card. The expenses land in the CAMT export automatically and I do not have to hunt for them.
- Keep foreign currencies instead of converting back and forth: if you receive payments in EUR and also have expenses in EUR, leave the balance in euros. Every conversion costs from 0.19%, so a double conversion costs twice as much.
- Fixed quarterly date for bookkeeping: I put the CAMT export in my calendar as a recurring appointment. Ten minutes a quarter instead of a pile of receipts in December.
- Avoid cash: above CHF 230 a month, every withdrawal costs 2.69%. For a GmbH that pays almost entirely digitally, this rarely matters, but it is good to know.
In short: Wise does not replace the entire financial setup of my GmbH. It is the lean everyday account through which all running expenses flow. That is exactly what it is made for, and exactly why it is so cheap.
How to open a Wise Business account
- Open a Wise account via the referral link and choose Business.
- Enter your company details, for example from the commercial register, and name the beneficial owners.
- Verify the identity of the management.
- Pay the one-time setup fee of CHF 55 to unlock all business features.
- Order the digital card and get started with your first payment.
For me, the account was ready within a few days. Have your commercial register details and ID at hand, and it goes quickly.
Who is a Wise Business account for?
Wise Business suits self-employed people and small Swiss companies that pay or get paid across currencies cheaply, and anyone who wants a digital business account without a monthly fee. If you work almost only in francs with Swiss clients and need QR invoices directly from the account, a Swiss business account is more practical. For private everyday banking in francs, I would rather recommend neon or Zak.
